In the News: Christmas Trees

Sports Radio KPQ posted a reminder worth passing on this Holiday season. According to the National Fire Protection Association, more home fires occur between Christmas eve and the first week of January than at any other time of the year.

Leading causes include space heaters, candles and Christmas trees. Fire officials say to help prevent Christmas tree lights from overheating, replace any burned out light bulbs promptly with the proper light bulb with like volt and wattage, do not overload the electrical wiring by adding too many light sets together, and do not cover the bulbs with cloth, paper or any decorations made of a combustible material or items that may overheat or short out the wiring. Also, make sure your tree is well watered.
